Nancy Isherwood of Newport is a representational artist currently working in pastel and oil. Her subject matter is primarily landscapes where she tries to capture the brilliance of light, depth of shadow and the feeling of being present within the space she creates.
Born in Fall River she received her BFA with Distinction from Southeastern Massachusetts University in
Visual Design and Illustration. Her early work as a freelance commercial artist concentrated on airbrush illustrations of sail and power boats for the marine industry and included three Sailing World “Boat of The Year” covers. She also designed corporate identity packages, brochures and advertisements.
Nancy studied Calligraphy under Tom Gourdie and Howard Glasser. Recently she has taken workshops with Richard Grosvenor, Mikel Wintermantel, William Davis, Don Demers, Yves St. Parent and Tom Denienger. In addition to pastel and oil, Nancy works in lithography, pen and ink, graphite and colored pencil.
Delighted to be able to devote her time to fine art and exhibiting her work, she has opened a studio/gallery at 2701 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI., across from The Portsmouth Arts Guild Center For The Arts. You can visit her there by chance or by appointment.
